on *are you here*, nthng takes an up-tempo bucket-booted drum shuffle and steadily filters its way into a skittering hat furore, all coated with epic pads and a demi-hoover rave stab. full fire-alarm business.
on the flip, there is serious influence from early trance and techno with the warehouse-crushing *in the afterglow*. constructed on the back of an early 90s hard house-esque alien synth patterns and rolling wildly into the deepest depths of the forest rave, until the long-awaited sunlight pads come bursting through the leaves.

berlin-based palms trax continues adding to his run of quality efforts with the forthcoming release of his high point on low ground ep: impressive effort number two for the dekmantel imprint. serving up three retro-futuristic killers, donaldson parades his ability to touch on the many different corners of contemporary house music, whilst delivering heavyweight dancefloor standards. the title track blazes a beaten-up vocal snippet over stanked-out synths, stretched to a breaking point across a low-riding bass line. a stabbing moroder-esque bass line dominates cloud city , whilst paws equals pure and raw broken-beat bliss with a pinch of acid.

originally recorded by marc moulin, vincent kenis and marc hollander in 1977 brussels. leapfrogging over style and genre boundaries, the lp shuffles between improvised jazz, minimalism, imaginary ethnic music, classical and even proto-techno (saure gurke foreshadows characteristic detroit techno riffs by a good ten years). it became a cult album in its own right and a few decades later parisian dj / producer krikor spontaneously decided to rework two tracks for his dj-sets. ensemble brings his remixes with the kind permission of crammed, marc hollander / aksak maboul and krikor.

whilst its neighbour has always taken the plaudits on the party front the steely city of sheffield has its own house history, with much of it residing in the warm buzzing darkness of the studio. its here that we find our latest robsoul rookie. a fresh name for the label, but a producer who is far from new to the game. tommy vicari jnr’s first release was pressed to the black gold and released back in 2004. since then there have been sporadic outings, but the last two years have seen a reinvigorated tommy roll out over ten new releases and play a huge part in putting sheffield s house music firmly back on the map. threshold of eternity sees tommy drop the northern grit to replace it with shimmering warmth and sunshine vibes across all four tracks. fidgeting rhythms, chopped samples and groove-heavy beats and bass are spliced together to create an essential feel-good release.
